A round watch case of six hexagonal chambers around a central core, with a secret compartment and a cam mechanism that presents each watch.
The work
Some objects measure time; others are made to honour it. Around the rim runs a single word, TEMPUS. Its answer, FUGIT, waits on the panels of the secret compartment. At the centre, Saturn and Jupiter stand for the two faces of time: Chronos, measured time, and Kairos, the right moment, the time that is lived rather than counted.
Materials and making
Veneered by hand in bog oak, an ancient wood that rested for thousands of years beneath the earth, and Louro Faia, warm and shimmering. Six stations plus one hidden compartment; a cam lifting system raises each support to present the watch. Finished with inlays and brass details.
